Bar Taco recently opened in downtown Port Chester in the Ebb Tide building behind the Willet House. While walking up to the front, it really didn’t look much different. And then I opened the door! It was love at first sight! I couldn’t believe what they did to the place. Its got a New England Nautical feel with a hip vibe to go along with it. Is it perfect? No. But do I love it? Yes!
What’s not to love? Well, the portions are small and everything is a la carte, so although you get to order many things this way, you could easily eat the entire menu and still have room to eat a steak from next door! I tried many of the menu items, minus the tongue taco. Just not my thing! I loved the fried fish taco, but found the snapper taco to be boring and dull. The guacamole is without question, the best I have ever had! And the pork & beans are nothing short of craveable. But the margaritas are inconsistent, one was again the best I have ever had and the second was almost undrinkable. The beer selection is ‘odd’ and I find the wine to be over priced for what it is. The soda was flat two days in a row and so I decided to say something and to be honest, the staff was more that grateful that I spoke up and after some investigation, they confirmed the soda was indeed flat. They were able to fix it within minutes so our next round was more more enjoyable to drink!
The outside deck is going to be a hit in the summer and I do believe Bar Taco is going to be a slam dunk in the area. I’m looking forward to many happy hours spent sipping cocktails and dipping chips in guacamole! Welcome to the neighborhood Bar Taco!
