Tarry Lodge, Port Chester NY

By Christina Collins

I have dined at Tarry Lodge many times and the food is always very good. However, my most recent visit was excellent! I had the Tagliatelle Bolognese and it blew my mind. I cannot wait to go back and order it again! The wine is incredibly over priced by the glass, but the wine list provides many reasonable priced bottles. I love the scene at Tarry Lodge, but do have a complaint about the bar. It is always crowded at Tarry Lodge and the bar is simply not big enough and it spills over into the dining area (albeit the more undesirable area of the dining room) but nonetheless, I still feel bad when I’m standing at someone else’s table while waiting for my own table to be ready. They should open a second bar upstairs or at the least, have a waiting area for diners.

My Trip Advisor Review
“Bolognese is the best I have ever had”
I have dined at Tarry Lodge about a dozen times and I have never been inspired to write a review until my most recent visit. I ordered the Tagliatelle Bolognese and it blew my mind. the pasta itself was thin and flavorful and the Bolognese sauce was absolutely divine. I have been craving more since I finished the last bite. Other items I have tried that are also quite good include the chicken francese, the lasagna (only on Sundays) and the short ribs. I did not enjoy the eggplant parm as I found it too salty. Overall I love Tarry Lodge and couldn’t be happier they opened. I do wish they had more sharable appetizers but I appreciate that they don’t have the standard appy list (fried calamari, mussels, etc.) so I understand that there is a balance that must be achieved there. My biggest complaint is the lack of room at the bar. Waits for a table are usually quite long and there is no waiting area so you head to the bar and there is very little room if you cannot secure a bar seat. There is just no where to put yourself without your bum being in someone’s spaghetti! I don’t understand why they don’t have a second bar upstairs or take the cafe area by the bar and make it bar tables. They definitely need more room in that area. Wine seems expensive but the poor is heavy and the wine is quality. And the Bottle selection is good and often saves a few bucks to order a bottle over drinks per glass.
